Terrific down home Sicilian home cooking. The Pasta Norma and the Squid Ink pasta ate amazing. One woman cooks, one guy waits tables and because it's super fresh not everything is available everyday on menu. I ate here twice after disappointing meals at highly touristed restaurants. I would move to Sicily and work here for free if I could learn how to cook here!! LMK if you need extra help!
Service is excellent, local table wine is cheap and really good. If I ever make it back to Sicily I'm eating here again.
Oh order the fried doughnuts for dessert... You'll see! -

We both had the pasta Norma, her signature dish, and were delighted---best we had in Sicily! Nonna was busy in the kitchen preparing the food and only one server at a time. Be prepared to spend hours for dinner but in a wonderful setting.

I must admit I've become addicted to yelping, I can't wait to share tips, review restaurants I've tried, hotels I've slept at. Still, if I have a favourite hidden place, I am sorry but I will be reluctant to share it with you guys, see below ;-)
De Fiore has been my favourite trattoria in Catania for years, and the same for many locals who regularly came here after listening to an opera at the Bellini theatre nearby. A hidden gem. Great home made stuff, friendly service, low prices.
One day De Fiore was reviewed by Lonely Planet and the tourists started flocking in. Almost immediately the quality dropped. The locals are now gone, the prices have gone up, and the patrons are almost exclusively tourists.
What happened to De Fiore is pretty sad. I feel like a kid whose favourite teddy bear was first shred to 1000 pieces then flushed down the toilet.
Don't take me wrong, the food isn't bad here, but it went from "great" to just "ok". I would still recommend this place. But what a pity..
PS The service has always been very relaxed here, but today it really moved at a glacial pace. After a couple of hours waiting, I literally had to say "I'm sorry I have a plane to catch". On top, they were unusually unfriendly. -

Really good place to eat traditional Italian food. Good price. Really good atmosphere!
